At the core of Poker SHIP is an algorithm to piece together a Texas
Hold'em player's starting hand table based on observed hand
histories. Most players use a starting hand table as a guideline for
deciding which hole cards they should raise, call, or fold with before
the flop. Many of us ordinarily estimate their starting hand table
with just two or three statistics, such as the percentage of hands
where they voluntarily put money in the pot (VPIP). While valuable,
these stats leave out a lot of details, such as how the player adjusts
their play based on position and the action before them. With Poker
SHIP, you can gain insight into their entire opening strategy.
In Poker SHIP's “Observed” tab, you can view which hands
your opponent played broken down by their position and the action
before them. Additionally, you can see how often they raised, called,
or folded in each situation in the “All” row.
Poker SHIP uses the raw data displayed in the “Observed”
to infer your opponent's complete starting hand table, based on the
hand history data you've collected and an elaborate set of Bayesian
inference rules.
We're constantly working to improve Poker SHIP's
inference rules. By using Poker SHIP to examine your own starting
hand table, you can evaluate Poker SHIP's accuracy for yourself. If
you have a new inference rule to suggest, send it to support@pokersleuth.com.
